We’re tracking a number of TJX Companies backfills existing store locations. The off-price department store corporation’s subsidiaries include familiar names like Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Sierra, and HomeSense. That TJX Companies backfills ostensibly strategically is hardly unusual, but it is happening on a fairly large scale across the country. Why? Well, partly because TJX has a lot of retail locations nationwide — over 3,000, in fact. While they certainly prioritize some projects over others, working with batches of TJX Companies backfilling projects likely saves significant resources.

Planned Retail from BuildCentral has tracked 15 completed TJX Companies backfills that have been completed within the last six months. Otherwise, BuildCentral is keeping tabs on more than 25 TJX Companies backfill projects that are in planning or under construction. Planned, ongoing, and recently completed TJX Companies backfills account for over 1.3 million square feet of construction.
